Entertainment
Seabird is equipped with an FM/AM cassette stereo/CD with both indoor and outdoor
speakers. There is a collection of tapes for
your use, mostly consisting of island music with some classical, popular, and Broadway
Shows. A small library contains excellent
Island and other books. A satellite TV/VCR
comes with a collection of "Island" and "Classic" movies and in the
loft, there is a variety of board games. We provide a variety of board games,
puzzles, and cards. There is also a piano in
the loft with a view of the ocean. We can't
promise that it will be perfectly in tune, but bring your music anyway because the chance
to play in such a setting is irresistible. |

important: Advise in advance of your arrival
if you need these set up. |
|
|
| 9 |
Mosquitoes
Well yes, sometimes (depending upon the rains) . . . But not often. When they're bad, the manager uses a butane insect
fogger around the house before your arrival to quiet them.
With Easterly winds, they disappear. |

Water
Seabird collects rainfall in an 18,000 gallon cistern. Since it rains infrequently in the Keys, the
manager may supplement the rainfall with water by barge from the mainland. As this very costly, we restrict water usage to
375 gallons per week, per group, since over time this has been the average used by a party
of eight. Usage over that amount will be
charged @17 cents per gallon. Keep in mind that Seabird has salt water flush toilets and
other water saving measures, so 375 gallons is more than adequate. |

| Directions from the Miami Airport |
|
Exit Airport going SOUTH on LeJune Road (42nd Avenue).
A few blocks on the right exit onto:
Hwy 836 West
Follow 836 West which intersects the Florida Turnpike. Take the Turnpike SOUTH.
The Turnpike terminates in Florida City and you will be on US1 going into the Keys.
You can watch the mile markers, and Marathon begins around MM54, and Seabird Key is closet
to MM53. |
|
|
|
After crossing the Vaca Cut bridge you're in Marathon. Look for
109th Street (traffic light), and turn right (you will see the Walgreen's Drug
Store). Go 1 block to 1st Avenue and turn RIGHT. Seabird's mainland lot is
just a few yards on the LEFT (11010 1st Avenue Gulf). You will see the
bougainvillea blossoms bursting over the fence and the coconut palms will whip your car
antenna as you pull into the lot. Our manager should be there waiting to greet you
and help with your luggage out to the Island. |
